Custom song services vs AI generators
Most people searching for an AI song generator want a song about someone, not a music tool. Those are different products.

Every tool I rank on this site answers the same question: how do I make music myself, faster. A large share of the people searching for one are not trying to make music at all. They want a finished song about a particular person, for a birthday, a wedding or a leaving party, and a generator is a strange and frustrating way to get one.
Why generators are bad at personal songs
A generator takes a description of a style. It does not know that the person is called Marianne, that she has kept the same terrible car for nineteen years, or that the joke everyone at the party will recognise involves a dog named Biscuit. You can write all of that into the lyrics yourself, and then you have written the song. The model supplied the arrangement, which was the easy part.
The second problem is the number of attempts. Generating is cheap per attempt and expensive in hours. People who set out to make one birthday song routinely spend an evening on it, and the version they send is the one they got tired at, not the one they liked best.

Do it yourself with a generator
Ten dollars a month for Suno or Udio, plus your evening. Right answer if you enjoy the process, if you want several songs, or if you want control over the arrangement. Wrong answer if you want one song and you want it to be good.
Buy a finished song from an AI-based service
A middle route that has grown up over the last two years: you answer questions about the person and the occasion, and a service writes the lyrics on your answers, sets them and sings them. Commission a human songwriter
From roughly 179 USD at the established services, more for anyone working independently, and about a week of lead time. A person listens, asks follow-up questions and makes musical decisions no model makes. For a song that will be played at a wedding and then again at an anniversary twenty years later, this is a different standard and it is worth the money.

- Do you want to make music, or to have a song? If the first, a generator. If the second, skip them.

What a personal song actually needs
I have made a lot of these now, for real occasions, and the pattern is always the same. The music is not what makes the room go quiet. The second verse is. The second verse is where the specific thing lives: the car, the nickname, the year everything went wrong, the thing only eleven people in the room understand.
No generator will produce that, because it does not know it. You either supply it yourself, in which case you have written the song and the tool has arranged it, or you answer somebody else's questions and they write it. Those are the only two routes that work. Prompting a model for "a heartfelt birthday song for my mother" produces something that could be about anybody's mother, which is the one thing it must not be.
How long each route really takes
Doing it yourself with a generator took me between forty minutes and a full evening per song, and the evening cases were always the ones where I cared most. Answering a written brief at a finished-song service took about ten minutes of my time and delivery ran in minutes to a few hours. A human songwriter is roughly a week, with a conversation in the middle of it.
Read that as a cost in attention rather than in money. If the song is for next Saturday and you have a job, the differences above matter more than any price difference on this page.
